Australia Supports Teacher Expo

THE National Department of Education, Teaching Service Commission, Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and the Australian High Commission will be hosting a Teacher Expo at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby today and tomorrow (19th -20th).

The Expo aims to address the issue of a shortage of qualified teachers in Papua New Guinea where, like in many countries, the number of teachers has not kept pace with the growing student population and poses a challenge to the country’s education sector.

The future prosperity of all Papua New Guineans is intrinsically linked to educational outcomes and dedicated and qualified teachers are crucial to delivering strong educational results. To attract more people to the teaching profession, the value of teachers needs to be recognised with opportunities for professional development.

The Expo will bring together education institutions, training providers, professional bodies, programs, and organisations that support PNG’s teaching workforce and education sector to promote teaching as a noble profession and highlight the importance of investing in PNG’s teaching workforce.

The Teacher Expo will encourage school leavers to consider a teaching career and will also provide current teachers with information on options to upgrade their teaching qualifications.

High school and university students, teachers, and anyone considering a teaching career should attend the Expo to access information and resources from around 30 stalls representing organisations active in the education sector and attend a series of presentations, masterclasses, and panel discissions.

Australia is supporting the Teacher Expo alongside the National Department of Education, Teaching Service Commission, Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology through the Partnerships for Improving Education program.
