Bando, Mirisim officiate Sepik bridge opening

IN a small yet significant ceremony held today, Minister for Coffee and Koroba Kopiago MP William Bando, joined his counterpart MP for Telefomin and Minister for Works and Highways, Solan Mirisim, to officially open the Sepik River bridge that links Telefomin and Tabubil.

This one-lane structure is a temporary bridge to assist the movement of light vehicle to the other side of Sepik River as work continue on to progress the Tabubil-Telefomin-Oksapimin-Kopiago Missing Link Road under the Marape- Rosso Government Connect PNG flagship policy.

Minister Bando, who was present on the ground was proud and happy to finally see his people from Telefomin having road access.

He commended Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG), OK Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) and Telefomin Ddistrict Development Authority (DDA) for working in collaboration to achieve this milestone.

Minister Bando further praised the Marape-Rosso Government for the Connect PNG policy as it truly touches the lives of simple people in rural areas.

Local MP and Works Minister, Hon. Solan Mirisim commended a local contractor for delivering this important bridge that will link the district.

He said there are plans already in place to build a permanent two-lane bridge and the contractor has already procured materials for work to begin.

Mirisim appealed to his people to make use of the infrastructure and complement it by going into agriculture activity that will contribute to the socio-economic of this country.

“My people are resilient and hardworking people. What was missing is road accessibility,” Mirisim said.

“Now that we have it, my people will take this opportunity and contribute positively to PNG economy,” Mirisim said.

He praised the Marape-Rosso Government for linking Telefomin to the outside world through the Connect PNG Policy.

Minister Mirisim added that his district will open its first BSP Hybrid Bank on Monday 18th of November.
