Border Storms get Mercy Pass from CCIC

COMPETITION Manager of the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup Sam Koi presented a Mercy Pass to the Border Storms rugby league club to participate in the Eastern end challenge that will be held in Lae this week.

Koi said Border Storms has been a consistent club in the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup (CCIC) Southern Region leg challenge and it was fair to have granted the club the Mercy Pass.

The Southern Region CCIC Challenge did not eventuate as scheduled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, but would be properly planned and executed this year.

Club sponsor Tony Wani said his team since competing in the CCIC Southern Leg challenge have been consistent right though bagging three gold pass, but fell short of accomplishing their goal of winning the Cup.

Last year they finished third after qualifying in the quarterfinals collecting K15, 000.00 cash price.

Despite many of their key players omitted from the side, the Storms have been working hard in training over the past weeks and are prepared to go compete in Lae.

PRK Mendi Muruks enforcer Jack Manda will be leading the side when they leave for Lae next week.

Border Storms who were the 2019 NCD Governors Cup champions is a proud club that has contributed bulk of their players to the Digicel Cup franchise, and the club is looking forward to exposing more talents.

Some of the notable players who have excelled under Storms are PNG Hunters rookie Judah Rimbu, Muruks duo Sylvester Bulu and Slyder Bulu, the Teme brothers (Jerry and David), Jack Manda and many others.
