Dr Lawrence appointed as deputy chairman of SEZ Board

DR. Lawrence Sause has been appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) Board.

SEZA Board Chairman Varigini Badira announced this last Thursday.

Mr. Badira said this was consistent with the SEZ Act 2019 with the Board making the appointment on February 23, 2023.

He commended the Board Members for their collective wisdom in making that appointment.

“Dr. Sause was nominated by the PNG Chamber of Commerce, supported by the PNG Customs and unanimously voted to become the Deputy Chairman of the Board,” Chairman Badira said.

“Dr. Sause is currently the Deputy Dean of the School of Business and Public Policy at the University of Papua New Guinea. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

His experience in policy advice on Cabinet-level decision making in PNG’s Central Government is an asset to the Board. He also holds Master of Public Policy from Victoria University and BA (Hons) in Political Science and Public Administration from the UPNG. Dr. Sause’s teaching and research interest areas include Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Sector Management and Project Management.

Dr. Sause has sat on a number of top advisory panels of Government and continues to provide advice to Government on an ongoing basis. He serves on numerous boards and his appointment as Deputy Chairman brings with it a wealth and repository of information that the Board will be guided by,” Badira explained.

He added: “The SEZA Board is an independent regulatory board and strives to maintain a cohesiveness integration between the initiatives of Private Sector-Owned Enterprises and State-Owned Enterprises to attract Local and Foreign Direct Investments”.

“Our task is not an easy one as our job is to ensure that regulations, standards and cost of doing business in SEZs are easy, streamlined and are better than those of other SEZs in other countries and regions so we can attract Local and Foreign Direct Investments to create jobs for our people and export PNG manufactured products to the global market.”
