GUANGZHOU INVESTORS TO VISIT PNG TO EXPLORE DOWNSTREAM PROCESSING OPPORTUNITIES

A team of investors from one of China’s biggest cities, Guangzhou, will be in the country at the behest of their government to explore downstream processing opportunities in PNG.

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape was informed of this by Governor of Guangdong Province, H.E Wang Weizhong, when the two leaders met after PM Marape ended his attendance of the Third Belt and Road forum in Beijing.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Marape thanked Governor Wang for his warm welcome and also for promoting a development and economic cooperation with PNG.

PM Marape said he was “very happy” with progress being made to enhance development cooperation between PNG and China through Guangdong Province.

Governor Wang, in turn, congratulated the Prime Minister on the successful outcomes of the discussions between PNG and China in the areas of investment, trade, infrastructure, energy, sustainable development and climate change, among other areas.

H.E Wang also congratulated Prime Minister Marape on Papua New Guinea issuing a joint declaration with China and signing a cooperation agreement on the margins of the Third Road and Belt forum.

He then went on to update the Prime Minister on the International Air Service Agreement, which will see Southern China Airline fly direct to Port Moresby, starting with once a week schedule and eventually increasing as the demand for the route increases.
