ODESH set to lead PNG’s Electric Vehicle Revolution

ACCORDING to Bloomberg News, China is a global leader in electric vehicles (EVs), producing approximately 58% of the world’s EVs and accounting for 64% of global production in 2022.

In 2023, China sold 9.05 million passenger EVs, comprising 6.26 million battery-only EVs and 2.79 million plug-in hybrids.

China also exported over 1.5 million EVs in 2023, with nearly 40% shipped to Europe. Chinese EV companies are innovating at a rapid pace, launching new models 30% faster than their Western counterparts.

ODESH Ltd, Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) first Road Traffic Authority approved/licensed EV dealer with a certified EV service center, is making strides in transforming the nation’s land transport sector.

The company aims to provide direct access to EVs sourced from leading manufacturers in China, helping to establish a sustainable transportation network in Port Moresby and then eventually across the country.

As part of its commitment to green mobility, ODESH Ltd has secured two strategic distribution agreements with renowned Chinese EV and solar electric vehicle manufacturers, including prominent brands like BYD and Aion.

In late October 2024, Isaac Jipsy, founder of ODESH, conducted a thorough due diligence trip to China, visiting factories, showrooms, and finalizing logistics. The visit culminated in the signing of exclusive agency agreements.

ODESH Ltd want to thank PNG Christian Professionals Network Inc – Mr. Benjamin Ketegu and Beyond Finance Ltd- Mr. Samuel Ray for their supports.

Today, ODESH Ltd serves as a comprehensive EV solution provider, offering brand new EVs, solar EVs, genuine service parts, certified Inspection station, and EV charging stations in Port Moresby, with plans to expand throughout PNG.

This initiative aligns with PNG’s sustainability goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, encouraging a nationwide shift toward environmentally friendly transit.

Isaac Jipsy holds a Honors Degree in Environmental Science from the University of PNG and a MBA with a specialization in Project and Operations Management from ADBU, India. Previously, he served as an Environmental and Regulatory Advisor with ExxonMobil (PNG) Ltd for 10 years, working on the PNG LNG Project. 5 years ago, he resigned to focus on ODESH Ltd, a public transport business. He also has a separate Subsidiary Environment and Socio – economic Consultancy firm (ODESH Environmental Services) which supported K92 Gold Mine Ltd, Santos (PNG) Ltd and ExxonMobil (PNG) Ltd get additional Environmental Permits and other new projects approvals under Environmental Act 2000.

In his previous role, Jipsy represented the private sector on the Climate Change and Development Authority’s (CCDA) Energy Sub-Committee, where he contributed to initiatives such as the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory and the review of the Climate Change (Management Amendment) Act 2021.

Now, as a local SME owner, he remains dedicated to supporting the CCDA, National Transport Department, and National Energy Authority in fostering cleaner energy and sustainable land transport technologies.

ODESH Ltd is committed to making EVs affordable for individuals, families, and organizations in PNG, offering a range of options to suit different budgets and preferences.

The company will introduce solar EVs to the PNG market in December 2024, followed by pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Solar EVs, in particular, offer notable benefits:

  • Environmentally friendly: Zero emissions contribute to cleaner air and reduced pollution.
  • Renewable energy: Solar power is sustainable and reduces reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Reduced operating costs: Fewer moving parts result in lower maintenance costs.
  • Quiet operation: Reduced noise pollution compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.
  • Energy independence: The ability to generate power reduces dependency on the energy grid.

This solar EV can be used as a family car, delivery vehicle, office administration car, or even taxi.

One immediate benefit of getting this EV will be the elimination of fuel costs, a substantial saving for many in PNG. For instance, taxi operators currently spending up to K160 daily on fuel could save around K57,600 annually by switching to solar EVs, providing them with additional income and long-term savings.

For organizations reliant on fossil fuels, transitioning to EVs will result in significant cost savings, funds that can be redirected toward other projects or investments.

“With advancements in EV technology, these vehicles will be well-suited for PNG, especially with current fuel price volatility and frequent power outages,” said Jipsy.

Solar EVs can charge using various light sources, including sunlight and fluorescent lights, and come equipped with ports for home charging.

In typical conditions, a fully charged solar EV can travel up to 300 kilometers before needing a recharge. For standard city use in Port Moresby, such as commuting, many users may only need to recharge every 2-3 months.

ODESH Ltd is currently accepting pre-orders for Solar EVs expected to arrive by December 2024. Interested buyers can contact the ODESH team via email at ijipsy@odesh.net or WhatsApp (+675 74086270). Orders placed before November 20 will secure priority delivery.
