UKRAINIAN business delegations are in Papua New Guinea with their plan of investing in the poultry industry.
Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko announced this following a meeting with the Ukrainian business delegation last week.
Tkatchenko said the delegation made their investment intentions known in their initial visit in 2024.
He said the high-level delegation of businessmen led by Mr Havras Dmytro and Mr Oleksandr Marko returned to the country two months later to invest in poultry farming.
Minister Tkatchenko said major poultry companies, Zenag and Mainland Holdings, currently produce 75 percent of chicken, and that 25 percent was imported to meet the demand of the Papua New Guinean market.
“There is a void in the production of poultry in the country so instead of importing from other countries, these Ukrainian Businessmen want to fill the void by investing in this project,” he said.
“They want to set up in partnership with the existing poultry farms and companies and fill the void so that we no longer have to import any chicken into PNG.”
Minister Tkatchenko said the venture will see the poultry market upskilled with Ukrainian technique to build the industry.
He said the delegation visited Madang, Lae, Goroka and Port Moresby and now they are going to finalise their numbers to invest their money and effort and everything in building a new poultry farm in Lae.
“They found out that PNG is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly, hospitable and they really love this nation and they will promote it many times.”
