Road reconstruction work has started on Butibam Road, with Dekenai Construction beginning work on site to improve the road.

The project will upgrade Butibam Road into a two-lane concrete road. The road will be made wider to allow space for parking, and will also include proper drainage, footpaths for people to walk safely, and solar street lights to improve visibility at night.

The upgrade will be carried out in phases, with the current work being the first phase of the project.

The project is being funded by the Lae City Authority (LCA), in line with the vision of Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP Hon. John Rosso to have all neglected and deteriorated roads in the city fixed properly to support the city’s growth as an industrial center.

Deputy Prime Minister Rosso said all roads in Lae will be improved over time, but not at the same time due to funding constraints, adding that road projects will be done one by one so every community benefits.
