By CHRISTOPHER YANDAWAI

THE Central Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Robert Agarobe has announced a funding allocation of K1.5 million towards COVID-19 operations in the province in the next four weeks of National Isolation Strategy.

Governor Agarobe announced this funding allocation in a press conference today in light of the ongoing spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province.

Mr Agarobe said the funds will be paid into Provincial Disaster Office to help assist the deployment of the strategies resolved by the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Committee on the 20th March, 2021.

The Provincial Disaster and Emergency Committee had resolved and issued specific strategy measures for Central Provincial Administration, Central Province and Provincial Health Authority respectively.

Amongst six other (6) strategy measures for Central Provincial Administration (CPA) is the continuation of public servants to be at work during the 4-week National Isolation period while maintaining and adhering to all COVID-19 protocols under the Pandemic Act 2020.

Governor Agarobe added that the CPA’s strategy measures will see all public servants to undergo COVID-19 tests.

The Governor said the Central province strategy will see classes for all schools throughout the province suspended for four weeks from 22nd March to 19th April, 2021.

He further highlighted that there would not be any liquor sales on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the province with no road blocks in all boarders of Central Province and NCD.

“Only checkpoints that will be allowed are at four sites. Bautama, 14 Mile, Laloki and Porebada which will be mend by CPA and CPTA officials to monitor movement of public and adhering to strict COVID-19 Protocols,” the Governor said.

Under the Provincial Health Authority’s strategy measures, Agarobe said all heath facilities in the province will remain open to attend to all daily health cases in their respective locations following all COVID-19 protocols.

He also added that all health facility stocks with essential drugs to attend to patients daily will be ensured under the PHA’s strategy measures.

Agarobe said the implementation of these strategy measures throughout the province will be monitored 24 hours by Provincial Health Office and Provincial Disaster Office through Emergency Call Centre in Provincial Headquarters in Konedobu. The 24 hours toll free number is 70415316.

“These strategies deployed by Central Provincial Government by the Administration allows for control mechanism to ensure reduce or retain as much as possible the spread of COVID-19 to Central Province,’’ Agarobe reiterated.

He said it is important for these actions to be executed immediately as current record of cases in the city increases every day.
