In a heartwarming display of generosity and compassion, the Mama Bank Charity Fund, a Charitable arm of Women’s Micro Bank Ltd, affectionately known as Mama Bank Ltd, celebrated the Christmas season by spreading joy to young patients at the Port Moresby General Hospital Children’s Ward.
Mama Bank Charity Fund was specifically established to drive the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and community development. This notable cause was initiated by Director Aleena Bird and is wholeheartedly supported by the Board and Management of the bank. The charity fund aims to make the positive impact on the lives of individuals facing health and social challenges and contribute to the well-being of the community.
Embarking on its inaugural activity, “Christmas Joy of Giving,” the charity Fund brought smiles and gifts to children battling various health challenges. The charitable endeavor began with a visit to the TB and Malnutrition Ward, where Mama bank Charity Fund donated and presented gifts to 44 kids and babies. The second stop was the children’s Cancer Ward, where 10 gifts packs were distributed, totaling 54 gifts shared with the children and babies in these two wards.
The thoughtful gifts packs, curated to bring joy and comfort, included coloring books, crayons, bubbles, bath towels, blankets, toiletries, water Bottles, juice boxes and fruits. The children and their parents or guardians joyfully received these tokens of love, echoing the theme of the initiative: “Christmas Joy of Giving.”
Ms. Melisha Sindiwan, the Marketing and Training Manager of Mama Bank Charity Fund, expressed her gratitude, stating, “I was so blessed by this act of giving and sharing joy with these little angels. Seeing them taking out their bubbles and starting to blow from their sickbed gives me great satisfaction.”
Ms. Sindiwan extended her appreciation to Ms. Grace Roland from the Friends of Pom Gen for coordinating with the hospital and children’s ward management. She commended Ms. Rolands for her presence at the hospital early in the morning, facilitating the donation process and guiding the mama bank team to the respective wards.
This event marks the first of many charitable activities for mama bank charity fund since its establishment. Ms. Sindiwan expressed enthusiasm future endeavors, emphasizing the commitment to working with the like-minded organizations and contribution to the community.
In a compassionate extension of love and Christmas Joy, Mama Bank Charity Fund reached out to two individuals battling cancer. Pomalat Lukas, a 63-year-old from Manus Province fighting Esophageal Cancer, received a gift pact and financial assistance. Similarly, for the second cancer patient, due to privacy considerations, their identity remains anonymous.
The Mama Bank Charity committees undertook these visitation showcasing the organisation’s commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those facing health challenges. As the Christmas season continues, Mama Bank looks forward to more opportunities to give back and collaborating with community in fostering a spirit of compassion and solidarity.
