Maprik MP Libert Kapris raised concern in Parliament this week about a stop-work by the contractor of the Maprik District Hospital in Maprik, East Sepik Province.

“When can’t the Department of Health settle the contractor if there are any outstanding fees?

“Now the health centre in Maprik is always congested and is not able to cater to the inclusive population.

“This situation is recently affecting many women and children, and they need to have these essential services to be installed,” Maprik MP said.

He asked if the Health Department could review and evaluate the hospital project.

In response, Health Minister Elias Kapavore said the department would do another review of the project.

“Whether we follow up with the funding outstanding last year or not, we’ll capture this project in the next budget.

“I want to say that this is an important area that we will work on, we have now established a project management team unit under the Department of Health,” Mr Kapavore said.

He added that K10 million was allocated last year for the new Maprik District Hospital.
