A FIRM in Australia has distributed a newly made wood stoves called cook stove in Ialibu and Imbonggu districts in southern Highlands Province.
The free distributions of the items started on Wednesday this week with about 13, 000 registered members of the rural communities and public servants within the four local level government areas.
The four LLGs include Ialibu Urban Authority, Kewabi in Ialibu/Pangia district and Ialibu Basin and Imbonggu Proper in Imbonggu district.
Distribution agent, Tasman Environment Markets (TEM) Limited, is rolling out this program as an initiative under the climate change program to minimise excessive use of trees for firewood for cooking purposes.
The theme of the program is ’Clean Cook’, meaning the portable metal stove will produce less smoke, use less woods and enable fast cook.
It is easy to carry around and can be used in modern built houses and village setting homes.
Using the wood stove will save costs, reduce air pollution thus improve reliable food cooking practices.
Local village people and public servants flooded into the distribution canter every morning to pick up their stoves according to their registered names.
The item is specially made in a way that you can just use small sticks or few dry woods to cook fast as it produces high heat for cooking.
The item relieved many village people who were depending highly on using more dry wood for cooking.
TEM Limited was in the region two months prior to the distribution of the stoves, to collect and register individuals to receive a cook stove.
The items were distributed at Ialibu district’s office area for Ialibu Urban communities while for the Imbonggu district, it was distributed at Walume district canter.
It is understood similar distributions will be done in other central locations for remote villages until the stock runs out, however, individuals who miss out during the distribution will go into new registration process.
According to the distributing agent, the program will slowly be rolled out in other districts and provinces upon assessment of these two districts.
