DAILY ATROCITIES AND HEINOUS CRIMES WILL NOT EVOKE SENSE OF URGENCY; LINO PREDICTED

Former Health Minister and Wabag Open MP Dr. Lino Tom foresaw the moral decay in the country especially in terms of serious Law and Order crises and stepped down from his Ministerial Position.

MP Lino left the Pangu led Marape-Rosso Coalition Government on September on the eve of Vote of No-Confidence after being a Minister in this Government for a little over 5 years the path MPs trod as a government was fraught with significant issues of “Good Governance” foreboding a bleak future.

Lino said, now the institutions of state have become desecrated to a point where they no longer serve their Constitutional functions but that of their masters, and the ordinary people have lost total faith in them.

“I believe that in a democracy; the government derives its legitimacy to rule from public consent as it is in essence, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people,” Lino said.

“Today, it seems this government has become the government of and for a few.
“Doing what’s right by God, country and people has become subservient to survival politics,” he added.

MP Lino said a good Rule of Law is demonstrated through good law enforcement, good political governance, and an effective legal system.

After all that has been happening in the country so far especially in the Law and Order sector, Lino hopes that this government can reprioritize its development agendas and make this nation safe again as the current nonchalant and dismal efforts will throw this nation into the doldrums of anarchy and chaos.

“In fact, it is fast happening before our eyes.”
If the daily atrocities and heinous crimes are not evoking any sense of urgency and concern, what else will,” Lino said.

“Mediocrity, insanity, and tyranny are accepted, espoused, and even celebrated.
“There is a moral and societal decadence that’s happening before all of us,” he added.

He said too many charlatans and sycophants have found their way around the government distancing genuine professionals and blinding and deafening the government to the real pain, cries, and perils of the people on the streets with their clamorous adulations.

“Slogans will never change our country; direct, strategic, and intentional action will.
We need to establish a “Good Rule of Law” and restore the sanctity and credibility of the “Institutions of State” as a matter of national importance and priority,” he added.
