The Oil Palm Industry Corporation (OPIC) is aggrieved by the disrespectful treatment by the Department of Agriculture (DAL) during a high-level meeting in Port Moresby today.

OPIC General Secretary Kepson Pupita expressed his concerns after his commodity board was not given prominence at the meeting.

He said DAL should have given prominence to OPIC, which contributed millions of kina to PNG’s economy annually.

Mr Pupita is aggrieved that DAL has overlooked OPIC and invited a consultant to present an outdated performance report on the oil palm sector.

“I received an invitation to go and do my presentation but later found out at the venue that a consultant will be presenting about oil palm sector.”

Mr Pupita added that he was supposed to present some important achievements and challenges faced by the oil palm sector but was unable to do that today.

The meeting was attended by heads government departments and statutory organisations who were invited to present their achievements and discuss possible solutions to their challenges.

The meeting focused on government coordination for agriculture, as well as rural and regional development.

“DAL Secretary must not undermine heads of commodity boards in the agriculture space but must unify them to work collaboratively to move the sector forward,” Mr Pupita said.

“He must respect the efforts of commodity boards in developing their respective sectors.”

The OPIC General Secretary revealed that his grievance had been relayed to the Agriculture and Livestock Minister on this issue.

DAL Secretary Dr. Sergie Bang has been made aware of the complaint from OPIC and is yet to respond to Mr Pupita.

  1. OPIC should be given the opportunity to present its own progressive report to ensure current and accurate information is despatched to the Government and people for public consumption.
DAL was divided into different ministries due to stagnancy and non performance during the last 50 years.
DAL has run down and defunct facilities and Institutions around the country. That is all known to PNG citizens. The top performance CEO in the country making millions of Kina during tough economic crisis is none other than Mr Kepson Pupita.

  2. Can OPIC and Oil Palm Industry stakeholders discuss the current Growers grievance on the 43% Pay Out Ratio, which we believe is being illegally deducted through the Price Formula.
There is no Legislation that Mandates such deduction and also no Agreement in place to effect such.
    Please explain to the growers!!!!
