The Department of Foreign Affairs has issued 56 land titles to its staff, fulfilling a key commitment to enhance staff welfare through its Staff Housing Scheme.

In a small but significant ceremony held in Murray Barracks, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Elias Wohenhu, presented the titles to the recipients.

The group comprised long-serving staff who had dedicated years to the department, as well as officers currently serving in PNG’s Overseas Missions and Posts.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Wohengu acknowledged the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Justin Tkatchenko, for his leadership in making this project a success for the department and its staff.

“Under Minister TKatchenko’s leadership, the department has achieved this significant project, with the completion of this first crotch in 2025,” Mr Wohenhu said.

“The issuance of these 56 titles is only the beginning. It is our shared vision to ensure that every Foreign Service Officer of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea has a home of their own.”

He added that the initiative was a recognition of the staff’s dedication and loyalty and reaffirmed that all officers deserved for their unwavering commitment to the department and the PNG Diplomatic Service.

The department also confirmed that the allocated plots would be equipped with secure perimeter fencing, reliable electricity connections and water utility access before the staff can move in to build their desired homes.
