Port Moresby book lovers are in for a rare treat as the renowned floating bookfair ship Doulos Hope arrives in the capital for the first time, bringing thousands of affordable books to local readers.
The visit is expected to stir fond memories for many Papua New Guineans who welcomed Doulos Hope’s sister ship, MV Doulos, during its visit in March 2008. Now, nearly two decades later, a new chapter begins as Doulos Hope opens its doors at the Old Wharf in Port Moresby from 6 February to 1 March 2026.
Visitors will have access to more than 2,000 different book titles, covering a wide range of subjects including science, medicine, arts, languages, faith, hobbies, cooking and sports. The floating bookfair also features children’s books, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and other educational resources, making it an event the whole family can enjoy.
The bookfair will be open to the public Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00am to 5:30pm, with the last entry at 5:00pm. On Sundays, opening hours will be from 1:00pm to 7:00pm, with last entry at 6:30pm. The ship will be closed on Mondays. On opening day, Thursday 6 February, Doulos Hope will welcome visitors from 1:00pm to 5:30pm.
Entry to the bookfair costs K5 per person (cash only), payable at the entrance. Children under 12 years and seniors over 65 years can enter free of charge, although they are still required to book tickets for priority entry. All children must be accompanied by an adult and must have their own tickets.
Members of the public are encouraged to follow DoulosHopePNG on Facebook and Instagram for updates on ticket availability and booking information.
For further details, the public can contact the advance preparation team through Josh Christopher via email at douloshope.portmoresby@gbaships.org.
The arrival of Doulos Hope is expected to be a major highlight on Port Moresby’s cultural calendar, promoting literacy, learning and a love for books across all ages.

Zion Zeal Christian School would like to schedule a visit to the ship.
Thanks
