Education Minister Hon. Lucas Dawa Dekena officially launched the 2025 academic year

MINISTER for Education Hon. Lucas Dawa Dekenai officially opened the 2025 academic year during the Dedication Service and Launching of the 2025 Academic Year at Rev Sione Kami Memorial Church in Port Moresby on Friday.

The 2025 education theme “Accessible Quality Education Pathway for All” signifies creating fair and high-quality education for all.

“We are reminded that education is a human right, a powerful tool for development and one of the strongest instruments for reducing poverty and improving health, gender equality, peace and stability,” Minister Dekena said.

He said quality education can only proceed through quality teaching and contented teachers.

Minister Dekena urged all working under the education department to make sure the education system gives young people best chance in building a strong future and contributing to their country.

Meanwhile, Secretary for Education Dr. Uke Kombra thanked Minister Dekena for making the decision that every child in PNG will be paid a tuition fee under the governments free education policy.

Dr. Kombra also mentioned that this week over 70 thousand teachers have started their duties for 2025 academic year.

“We are expecting an enrollment of 2.4 to 2.5 million students in our school system,” said Dr. Kombra.

He urged everyone working under the education department to remain focus to deliver quality education to everyone.
