THE Department of Education has launched its education sector development plan for 2023 to 2027.
Minister for Education Lucas Dawa Dekena said: “Our primary goal is to implement the investment program that will utilize K4.19 billion budget for the medium-term development plan.
“This is not an expense but an investment in our people, our investment in our future and an investment that will have impact on our nations prosperity.
“We have distributed these funding with 38% going to the national general education, 60% to higher technical education and 2% dedicated to research science and technology,” Mr Dekena said.
Secretary for Education Dr Uke Kombra urged people to reflect on five decades of progress and to look forward to the promise of brighter future.
For the past 50 years the ministry of education has been a corner stone of the nation’s journey since getting independence in 1975.
“We were task with difficult challenge and that was to unite the nation over thousand tribes’ cultures and languages through the universal language of learning.
“Despite the many challenges we faced this anniversary is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the countless teachers, administration, staffs and those who have saved the lives of generations,” Dr Kombra said.
Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Kinoka Hotuna Feo. emphasized on the future of education in the next 50 years.
“The future of education will be written in the classrooms, lecture halls, the workshops and the research labs of PNG.
“Today we launch the education sector plan 2023 to 2027, this is not just another policy, it is a national contract with the future,” he said.
