PAPUA New Guinea National Research Institute (PNG NRI) and Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance (PILAG) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at consolidating and strengthening corporation between the two State institutions on how best to serve the people of PNG with the use of research and training.
The MoU was signed between PILAG chief executive officer Mr Micheal Barobe and PNG NRI Director Dr Osborne Sanida and witnessed by other senior officers of the two institutions at PILAG today (8 November 2022).
Mr Barobe said PNG NRI is known for doing research including government policies and what needs to be done, and PILAG is the implementing agency through training programs and that’s how it is fitting for the two institutions to work together so that “we alleviate or reduce the deficiencies within the public sector performance”.
He said PILAG acknowledged that it is important that State agencies like PNG NRI and PILAG collaborate and work together with stakeholders to deliver the much needed goods and services to our people.
Dr Sanida said the MoU reflects the mutual value both institutions hold in terms of extension and strengthening of research and for the general benefit of PNG.
“The partnership focus signals collaboration into key areas including Service Improvement Program (SIP) challenges; public service policy and administrative reforms; effectiveness and efficiency of the public service machinery; workplace research through PILAG’s course participants; public policy effectiveness; and research-informed training.”
Dr Sanida said PNG NRI is glad to go into partnership with PILAG, which is mandated to train public servants in PNG in order for them to be effective and efficient in their roles and responsibilities.
“It is my optimistic view that this partnership will make an important contribution to the roles of PNG NRI and PILAG, in as far as how research and training can be used to create change in the mindset of public servants undertaking training so that they can perform effectively to deliver public services that our people expect.”
He said under the MoU, the two institutions can also collaborate in staff exchange, joint research partnership, and co-hosting of seminars and workshps to disseminate research findings through networks of both organisations.
