NORTHERN Environmental Solutions Inc NESI) is set to expand upland organic rice farming in Oro Province to Foster Food Security and Sustainable Development.
NESI) announced this with the official launching ceremony of the initiative to be conducted in January 2025.
The program aims to provide food security while significantly reducing environmental impact and promote sustainable agricultural practices within local communities.
NESI Project Manager Christopher Soka stated that the initiative underscores the commitment of Northern Environmental Solutions to empower local farmers through sustainable farming techniques.
“Our mission is to provide the best community sustainable projects that empowers local communities for a sustainable livelihood in different local communities in Oro Province,” Christopher Soka said.
Greg Soka, Executive Director of NESI acknowledged the committed stakeholders in Oro for their support and collaboration given to NESI to empower local communities in rice farming.
“I’d like to appreciate a joint discussion held last week during an excursion of Popondetta TVET Agriculture Students at our Rice Project Site at Arehe Block with our Project Team on the ground.
“We are thankful to the Sohe Project Coordinator Mr. Fabian Uhura, Popondetta District Department of Agriculture and Livestock Mr. Peter Aiga, Carlos Rice Farming Group, Popondetta TVET Mrs. Muriel Aseari and the Agriculture Students.
“I’d also would like to thank Mr. Ian Suharupa and Muriel Tovivi of Radio Northern for their support in promoting our work in their radio program in Oro.” Greg Soka said.
NESI Program Advisor Leon Soka in appreciating all stakeholders including Oro Provincial Government and NBPOL Sustainability Department, reiterated that the expansion is essential not only for enhancing food security but also for preserving the natural environment in Oro Province, aligning with global efforts toward sustainable development.
