MANUS police have reported the killing of a young girl by another young female in Lorengau town recently.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Inspector David Yapu said a young girl age 22 from Butjou in Pobuma Local Level Government who is a student at Manus Training Centre was returning home after school on Friday, June 18 when the incident occurred.
She was allegedly confronted by another young girl from Panuselu in Rambjuso Island who works in a Chinese shop. The suspect stabbed the victim with a small knife and she sustained injuries to her head, left hand and left side below her breast.
She was rushed to Lorengau General hospital but died on arrival due to loss of blood.
On Saturday, after learning that the victim died, her relatives mobilized and fronted up at the police station demanding the release of the suspect from the cell with threats to kill her.
Police put up strong resistance and prevented them from entering the Police Station to release the suspect.
PPC Yapu told the relatives that it was a police case now and the suspect was arrested and in Police custody and will appear in court and to allow the court process to continue.
He told the relatives to remain calm and not to take law into their hands and cause further trouble otherwise they will be arrested and locked up in cells as well.
The suspect female Salome Papi, 22 from Panuselu village, Rambujo Island was arrested for murder and will appear before the Lorengau Committal Court for mention. She is in custody.
The situation remains tense and police are monitoring the situation.
In another related matter a 27 year old man from Panusela village, Rambutso island was arrested and charged with sexual touching of 14-year old female victim, a grade five student.
PPC Yapu said the victim was sleeping in her room when the suspect entered and touched her private parts. The suspect was arrested upon a complaint made to Police by relatives of the victim.
The suspect appeared in Lorengau Committal Court and was remanded in custody.
