Central province allocates K2.6 million for teachers leave fares

THE Central province assembly has allocated K2.6million for teachers leave fares that was included in the K193 million supplementary budget tabled last week.

It is a relieve for the teachers as the assembly under the leadership of Governor Rufina Peter considered to include teachers leave fares in the supplementary budget for the first time.

She said the teachers leave fares was part of new inclusions in the budget.

A supplementary budget of K193, 177, 800 was passed for the remainder of the year from the initial budget of K232, 777, 800 passed by the previous assembly.

The Governor while tabling the supplementary budget at the second assembly meeting, specified that there were number of decreases proposed to key areas of development due to lack of performance.

She said that the reduction in interval revenue appropriation was affected by the non-performance of the existing and ongoing internal revenue sources.

‘’We are not yet able to achieve the goals by the figures for this year learning to the current cashflow problems,” the governor said.

She said this may affect the tabling of the 2023 provincial budget whilst adjustments in the coming year was expected.

The budget summary noted eight significant decreases, two increases and two inclusions.

. Decrease of K40, 000 to the provincial government administration services;

. Decrease of K1, 159, 000 to the administration sector;

. Decrease of K1, 240, 000 to other service delivery;

. Decrease of K2, 714, 000 to the economic sector;

. Decrease of K1,3 million to the education sector;

. Decrease of K8.2 million to the transport and infrastructure sector;

. Decrease of K28.6 million to internal revenue development;

. Decrease of K1. 18 million to the agriculture production sector;

. Increase of K500, 000 to law-and-order sector;

. Increase of K1million to 2022 National General Election;

. Inclusion of K2.6million for teachers leave fares; and

. Inclusion of K3million to the Haidana Island Resort.

According to Ms Peter, the K3million for the Haidana Island Resort project is a private investment that was included into the Central Province budget.
