Prime Minister James Marape uses the Bougainville conflict in Papua New Guinea as an example of how peace can be achieved between Israel and Gaza.

In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Mr Marape emphasised the importance of peace and the efforts needed to address the chaos currently affecting the Middle East.

“The crisis began 14 years ago after we gained independence in 1975. Through dialogue and the oversight of the United Nations, we achieved the Bougainville Peace Agreement in 2001,” Prime Minister said.

Mr Marape stated since then, I am pleased to say that not a bullet has been fired since the peace agreement was signed.

“It was a very good peace agreement that allowed us to connect through shared interests, facilitating that dialogue,” he said.

Prime Minister emphasised that the principle is simple, unless and until you are at peace table, everything else falls into place.

“Just as in PNG, where we reached our peace agreement, we did not need a United Nations resolution to convince us to come to the peace table.

“Through peace everything comes together, and PNG stands as a testimony to this.
