GG and Sir J convey well wishes to Sir Michael

Governor General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae has extended “get well” wishes to the nation’s founding father and former Prime Minister Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

 A statement released by the family of Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare revealed that the country’s first Prime Minister has been hospitalized and is receiving medical care.

“Lady Emeline joins me in extending to our nation’s founding father Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare our profound best wishes as he receives the care needed during this time.

“We are thinking of you Grand Chief Sir Michael and praying that God’s heavenly peace and comfort be upon you and that you may recover soon.

“We extend also our well wishes to Lady Veronica during this time. We as a nation hold you both dear to our hearts and it is our hope that you will make good progress in your recovery.

“I take this time to also make a special plea to every Papua New Guinean throughout the country and abroad to come together in unity and pray for our Grand Chief Sir Michael and Lady Veronica Somare that they may be assured of our love and support during this time, ” Grand Chief Sir Bob said.

Meanwhile, New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has extended prayers of hope to his friend, fellow founding father and senior statesman Sir Michael Somare whom he learnt today has been diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.

Sir J thinking of his dear friend, said Sir Michael is a determined, brave and visionary leader.

He recalled back to the early days of nationhood how they ventured into the unknown taking a thousand tribes with them to form the United Nation of Papua New Guinea.

“We came 45 years ago, setting the foundation for stability, Growth, Advancement and Education. We may sometimes be divided politically but always United.”

“We in New Ireland will pray with your family and all well wishers around PNG and the World.”

Sir J and Sir Michael celebrated together during the Grand Opening of the New Ireland Legislative in September last year.
