HIS Excellency (H.E.) Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae GCL, GCMG, KStJ, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, was today presented with an Annual Report for Judges by Chief Justice Sir Gibuma Salika.
The Chief Justice presented the 2023 Annual Report of the Judges to the Governor General at Government House this morning.
The Judges’ Report highlights key aspects of the judicial system in the year 2023 in relation to the number of cases heard throughout the country, appointments of judges and acting judges, report on the progress of the court complex at Waigani and investment in information technology by the judiciary to record and manage cases in an effective and efficient manner.
The 2023 Judge’s Report also provides a financial report of the National Judicial Services.
Chief Justice Sir Gibuma noted that the Annual Report on the work of the national judiciary aims to ensure that the “judiciary maintains public confidence in its independence and demonstrates efforts to improve the quality of justice and its timely delivery.”
Presentation of Annual Reports on the performance of the national judicial system is provided for by Sect 187 of the Constitution. The Annual Reports presented to the Head of State will then be forwarded to the Office of the Speaker of Parliament to be tabled in Parliament.
