FOR the first time, churches in Goilala district in Central province will receive K1 million from the Goilala District Development Authority.
This is thanks to the local MP Casmiro Aia and his DDA members who felt that it was only appropriate that churches were recognized through this allocation because of their role in the district.
Casmiro said, Catholic was the only denomination in the district and played a crucial role in delivering health and education services in the district.
He said most or if not, all education and health services are church run agencies.
‘’So, it is only fair that the church is rewarded for its efforts,” he said.
He also added that the funding can be accessed by each parish in the district to maintain its operations and refurbish some of its deteriorating infrastructures.
‘’Catholic Church was the first denomination to reach Goilala from Yule Island in 1938. They brought development to the area. They ran schools and health services and today is a testament of what had been established long before. Therefore it is only appropriate to maintain church partnership approach in this context providing services to the populace of the district,’’ he said.
He said, he is in terms to negotiate with the Bereina Catholic Diocese in Kairuku to bring back Catholic Sisters to enforce the work of churches in the district.
He said the Goilala DDA is committed to work with the church and uphold the partnership to deliver effective services to its people.
