MARAPE-Basil government remains committed to the progress of infrastructure development of the Western Pacific University (WPU) in Ialibu-Pangia electorate, says Higher Education Minister Wesley Raminai.
“I want to make it very clear to the stakeholders of the WPU and the general public that our government is prioritizing WPU as one of its high impact projects of the higher education sector,” Minister Raminai said.
He said under the 2022 Budget, the government has so far released K10 million already to the University for this purpose and that there would not be any concerns about funding issues and other matters relating to laid off workers.
“Currently there are two major projects running on the ground as we speak. One is the infrastructure project that our government is continuing to support to ensure it is completed on time.
“And the other one is the first year intakes doing foundation year studying units prior to undertaking degree programs,” said Raminai.
The minister also clarified that there is misinformation fabricated by self-seeking interest people saying government is not supporting the WPU.
“I want to assure you all that this is not true. This government is committed to supporting the current infrastructure in progress,” Minister Raminai clarified.
“Information about government not supporting WPU is a total lie. We have released K2 million earlier this year and last month we have released another K8 million.”
The minister said there would not be any excuse of funding issues by now and expects all staff of the university including the construction workers to be on the ground attending to their assigned tasks.
“If the WPU says it does not have the K10 million, then someone is lying and he or she needs to be questioned.”
