Southern Highlands Governor Hon. William Powi applauded the Bosavi Sisa Students Association for their proactive approach towards promoting education within their remote vicinity yesterday.

Attending the association’s weekend meeting, Governor Powi in a statement said that he is committed to backing their endeavors, by recognizing the importance of their mission to one of Southern Highland’s most remote area.

The association’s Interim President, Samuel Keara, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Powi for his presence and the support pledged.

President Keara highlighted that Mount Bosavi-Sisa Students Association was formed with the aim of fostering education among the Mount Bosavi community, preparing its members for a sustainable future beyond the depletion of oil and gas resources.

“We established this association not only to aid students currently enrolled in tertiary institutions but also to empower our community members through education. We are deeply thankful to Governor Powi for attending our meeting and supporting our cause,” Keara remarked.

Governor Powi praised the association’s initiative and said education plays a vital role in transforming isolated regions like Mount Bosavi. He said the provincial government is happy to support such initiative.

“This is a commendable initiative. I am pleased to be here and engage with the Bosavi Sisa Students Association. Your efforts are vital, and I am committed to supporting this group to ensure we see more educated individuals emerging from the Bosavi-Sisa area,” Governor Powi said.

To substantiate his commitment, Governor Powi announced a K50,000 contribution from the Southern Highlands Provincial Government to the association, aimed at supporting their educational programs.

Moreover, Governor Powi urged the association to gather comprehensive data and submit a realistic proposal. He said this would enable the Provincial Government to further assist with subsidising school fees and implementing additional educational and health programs in the remote Mount Bosavi area.

President Keara said Governor Powi’s endorsement and financial pledge will enable the association to achieve their mission of educational empowerment and community development projects.
