The paediatrician or children doctors have arrived this morning in Goroka toĀ conduct a two-day heart screening clinic for children in Eastern Highlands province.
The heart screening program is made possible through Operation Open Heart Foundation PNG, which is supported by its donor partners such as BSP, Sir Brian Bell f Foundation and Exxon Mobil PNG.
The team of specialist doctors is led by the chief pediatrician Dr. Cornelia Kilalang (center) and pediatricians Dr. Diane Olita’a (right) and Dr. Kunera Kiromat (left).
The specialist medical professionals will be at the Goroka General Hospital and screen at least 100 children presented with possible heart defects or diseases today and tomorrow.
Since the establishment of the Operation Open Heart program in 1993, heart screening has been the top priority process for patients to be selected for open-heart surgeries every year.
Doctors will use the portable cardiac echo scan life-saving equipment on children to diagnose heart defects or diseases.
