PORT Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi has praised all the private hospitals in Papua New Guinea for taking some of the workload off public hospitals.

“Without the private sector, the public hospital will not progress because there will be very long queues to serve in public hospitals,” Dr Molumi said.

“Hospital lines would be very long if we do not have private facilities, so thank you to private hospitals for taking off many of our loads for those who can affords.”

Paradise Private Hospital CEO Dr Polapoi Chalau clarified doubts that many people had about private hospitals.

“I keep saying that we need to put aside this mentality that private hospitals are there to make money.

“It’s not money. It’s about compassion, delivering from the heart, and that’s why money comes later, although we need to sustain ourselves.

“But I think it’s about living and having an impact on humanity that matters to all of us,” Mr Chalau said.

“I don’t see ourselves as competitors, I see ourselves as partners in delivering the health outcome to our people.

“Whilst we have the other private hospitals in there and public hospitals, I was thinking about how the business and corporate world ideologies I go against them and said we are partners, and that is what I am trying to do for the hospital.”

“We have three dialysis units, which we set up last year to complement and support the Port Moresby General Hospital, plus Pacific International Hospital and other hospitals.
