Hiri Koiari elevates its financial functions to IFMS

HIRI Koiari district in Central province has elevated its financial system with the setup of newly designed Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Provincial Finance Manager for Central, Walis Imbal, who made this possible through his endless dialogue with the Department of Finance.

Mr Imbal made it a reality to have the facility launched at the district head office at Mirigeda, outside Port Moresby.

He said the IFMS will relieve the stress of the using the financial manual system, thus there will be transparency and accountability in using the IFMS.

There was delay in implementing the system for almost three years, however, Imbal is happy to get the facility installed last week.

He commended Acting District Finance Manager, Anoinette Aisi, to work her way out to get the setup of the new facility with assistance from the Department of Finance.

Deputy Secretary for Finance, Tom Tiki, who was present to witness the occasion stressed on the importance of using the IFMS system.

“Using the manual system has no accountability and transparency when processing manual cheques,” Tiki said.

“With the use of the IFMS it will certainly lift the standard of the financial functions for the district,’’ he said.

“It is a government mandatory requirement for all districts to use the IFMS system and I am pleased that Hiri Koiari district has finally come up with its own IFMS system.”

The Finance Manager said thorough the IFMS, it will monitor all the transactions to ensure no transactions are made outside of the budget.

He added that it is a healthier system that will enhance transparency and accountability through all transactions that is made through the system.

First Assistance Secretary Gabi KIla applauded the efforts of the acting DFM to ensure process of setting up the system is complied.  

Tiki also commended the Heau Kengasa, the officer in charge of all IFMS in the country to have delivered the facility for the new district.

Acting Chief Executive Officer for the district, Copland Tapio, commended the Department of Finance and the PFM with the acting DFM for their tireless efforts in delivering the IFMS.
