THE National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) is set to establish youth programs in the Imbonggu district in Southern Highlands Province (SHP).
The NYDA is now positioned well to deliver youth programs in the districts in partnership with DDAs via the District Youth Council.
The Imbonggu district is one of the districts in the country that embraces youth programs since 2019.
They got their district youth network established, starting from the ward level. The opening of the Imbonggu District Community Development Centre (DCDC) last month further accelerates the approach to sustainable youth programs.
The youth office in the DCDC will coordinate hive of youth programs in the district and broader SHP.
The immediate focus will be on youth leadership capacity building, followed by youth SME in areas of agriculture, floriculture, trout farming, retailing merchandise, textil/sewing, carpentry, welding.
Under the auspices of the partnership, NYDA intends to create a filtering mechanism for Imbonggu youths whereby a data base that will capture every Imbongu youths that drop outside from school.
From the data, they will be slotted into specific skills training program which will sustain them in the village.
From a broader perspective, this intervention will play a major part to reduce rural urban drift.
