THE Indo-Pacific health security alliance (IPhsa) meeting in Port Moresby brought together military, civilian, and NGO health stakeholders to discuss how health security challenges can have broader impacts for national security under the theme “Health Security is National Security: Civil-Military Collaboration Against Health Threats”.

The 3days IPhsa forum included panel discussions about responding to health security threats, featuring panellists from PNG, Fiji, New Zealand, Indonesia and Australia.

Other presentations involved sharing insights about how to enhance health security readiness and coordinate a response, as well as unique insights from PNG delegates about their experiences countering some of the health security challenges PNG has faced.

IPhsa meeting is an opportunity to work together with partners from across the region to address how to respond to daily challenges, and identify opportunities for military and civilian organisations to collaborate and learn from each other.

Participants from Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Kiribati, Malaysia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Tonga, Vietnam, and the United States travelled to Port Moresby to
discuss these issues alongside their PNG counterparts.

The event concluded today with PNG signing IPhsa Terms of Reference to join the United States and Australia in becoming a full member of the Indo-Pacific Health Security Alliance.
