Kairuku-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo has set the bench mark for women in the electorate to familiarize themselves on the culture of savings through the Women’s Micro Bank.
The vocal MP of Central province highlighted the many setbacks that women in the rural setting in the province had experienced in the last 40 years.
He said there were avenues to help women programs and other vital agendas, however, funding was a challenge that he faced since occupying office through a by –election in 2014 and 2017 national election consecutively.
Despite the funding constrains, the MP had sacrificed whatever little funding that was pumped into the district coffers from the national government under the law and justice sector.
He said he made sure that the DDA had to approve women programs in the electorate with his connection with Women’s Micro Bank to improve women in agriculture and small SME projects in the electorate to save, access loans to grow their economic generating projects.
Friday was a milestone achievement for women groups in Inauabui village in Mekeo Kuni LLG along the Hiritano electorate.
A total of 35 women groups received their passbook savings account books from the Women’s Micro Bank (WMB) with an additional commitment of K105, 000 from the MP to support the 35 women group accounts.
Isoaimo invested K20, 000 as seed capital with the WMB last year to roll out the savings account project for the women group in the area.
He said that the partnership with the Women’s Micro bank was a way forward to improving rural population wealth and gain from respective homes and further added that his partnership with the bank was made in the direction to empower women and family across the electorate.
Mothers gathered in numbers to tell Sunday Bulletin that the passbook account will now help them to improve their savings culture and motivate them to do more in their respective SME projects to obtain loans if they need to expand on their businesses.
