The International Training Institute commemorated its Founders Day with  Independence Day celebrations today at the Taurama Aquatic Center in Port Moresby.

ITI staff and students took the Day off to commemorate the events with traditional dances that showcased cultures, talents and sporting activities.

The day was celebrated in honor of Professor Sentheyval Thuraiappah, who founded the institution with a dream of quality and affordable education in PNG in 1999.

This event commemorates Prof Thuraiappah who passed away 20 years.

Co-founder and chairman of ITI, Kumaran Sentheyval said: “This is an annual event that we celebrate, however today makes it extra special because we are celebrating it with our country’s 50th Independence Celebration.

“The Interesting part to it is that, my f family came here three years after Independence and established the international Training Institute in 1999, and it is special to celebrate the 50years of this country’s independence as well as honoring my late father’s Founder’s Day.

“We started this institution 26 years ago with an aim to provide quality and affordable education, my father and myself, we decided to give the average people a chance to study because, at that time, most of the institutes were targeting corporate sectors.

“And today we commemorate my father’s Remembrance Day today since his passing 20years back, it is also a good way to remember a far we have come.”

Mr. Sentheyval thanked long-serving staff of the institution as well as the general staff and students for making the day a memorable one.

He added that ITI was one of the largest recognized private institutions in PNG and the staff and the students have to work together to grow the institution.
