Member for Kagua Erave, Hon. Maina Pano, has raised serious concerns in Parliament over several key infrastructure projects in his electorate that remain incomplete despite funding support from the National Government.
During Question Time, the local MP posed three questions without notice to the Minister for Works and Highways, Hon. Solan Mirisim. He specifically queried the funding allocation and progress of the Kuare to Rindita road upgrading and sealing, the inconsistencies by the contractor working on the Route 700 Kikori Highway, and the delayed sealing of Kagua Town roads.
Pano underscored the importance of these projects, particularly the Kuare to Rindita road, which he said would serve as a vital link connecting Kagua Erave and Ialibu-Pangia districts through the Last Wiru vicinity in Pangia.
He reminded the House that the Kikori Highway was among the national infrastructure projects pledged by the Government to be delivered and launched in line with the country’s 50th Jubilee celebrations this year.
“Can the Minister for Works and Highways clarify to the people of Kagua Erave how much funding has already been released for these projects, and when they are expected to be completed?” he asked.
The MP expressed his heartfelt concern over the delays and urged Parliament to ensure timely delivery of these essential infrastructure projects, which are critical to improving the lives of his constituents.
In response, Minister Mirisim said he would consult with the Department of Works and Highways to verify details regarding funding disbursements, contractor performance, and the timeline for project completion. He assured the House that an update will be provided once those checks are completed.
