KANDEP District in Enga Province is embracing changes into the communities through cultural services and programs delivered by the National Cultural Commission (NCC).
The lower, middle and upper wage communities in the Longap local level government (LLG) of the district are now keen to host their first ever cultural show in December 2024.
NCC is instrumental in delivering this through its mission to connect community people with their culture.
NCC Executive Director Steven Enomb Kilanda and Enga Take Anda Cultural Centre Director Akii Tumu launched the Wage Cultural show in Wabag on Monday, 14th, August, 2023.
Chairman for wage cultural show, Tumu Ayala said the launching of Wage cultural show is the first ever cultural show to be staged in the Wage area and kandep district.
He said Kandep is one of the unique district that is linking two other provinces – Hela and Southern Highlands.
“We are grateful for this opportunity and platform provided by the NCC to use cultural services and programs like this to change the mindset, and lives of our people in the community,” he said.
“This is the first cultural show to be held back at the local community thus, Kandep is ready to host this show starting next year,” he said.
Mr Ayala further said they were in Wabag to participate in the Enga cultural show, however, they are grateful for the recognition and support from the NCC.
“This cultural show will now give us the opportunity to showcase our unique cultures and bring together the communities from all over the district and province,” he said.
“We are also inviting our brothers and sisters from Magarima in Hela and Mendi in Southern Highlands as we share a common border.”
Ayala said Kanep is looking forward to host its inaugural cultural show, in collaboration with NCC.
