THE New Minister for Civil Aviation, Hon. Wake Goi has appointed Rex Kiponge as the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Airports Corporation Limited (NACL).

Minister Goi, in a statement addressed to NAC board Chairman Captain Timothy Narara stated that the appointment of Rex coincides with the expiration of Mr. Dominic Albert Kaumu’s acting term on April 6th, 2025.

“After careful consideration of the organization’s current circumstances and future requirements, I have appointed Mr. Rex Kiponge as Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAC for a period of three (3) months,” Minister Wake stated.

“Kiponge’s appointment will come into effect on April 7th, 2025.”

Goi stressed that Mr. Kiponge is not new to NACL or the position of Managing Director and CEO.

“Given his previous experience in this role, I am confident he will ensure a smooth transition and effectively continue the important work of the Corporation from where Mr. Kamu concludes his tenure.

“His familiarity with NACL’s operations, strategic priorities, and the broader aviation sector will be valuable during this transitional period.”

Minister Goi clarified that with the appointment of Kiponge as the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NACL, there will not be any vacancy for the position of Managing Director and CEO.

Goi further stated that any processes that are currently underway for the appointment of a permanent managing director and CEO for NACL must be ceased immediately.

“This will ensure clarity of leadership and prevent any potential confusion or duplication of efforts,” stated Goi.

“I have provided specific instructions to Mr. Kiponge regarding his priorities during this three-month acting period.

“Of particular importance is the task to fast-track the appropriate processes for the appointment of a permanent MD and CEO in consultation with the board and I expect this to be conducted with the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and in accordance with all relevant government requirements.”

Goi added that he plans to schedule a meeting with the NACL board to discuss NACL’s strategic direction, operational priorities and how this will align with the government’s policy objectives for the aviation sector, adding that the meeting will provide an opportunity for direct engagement and to address any questions or concerns.

Minister Goi also pointed out that the Marape-Rosso Government has set ambitious goals for the transport sector, with aviation playing a critical role in connecting the nation and driving economic development.

He urged the board to work closely and collaboratively with NACL management to ensure these policy objectives are effectively implemented.
