Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL) has announced its renewal of a three-year sponsorship to the national men’s rugby league team, PNG LNG Kumuls.

The K3.3 million platinum sponsorship over three will cover the Kumuls’ international matches and the annual Prime Minister’s XIII, and the Pacific Championships.

Chief Executive Officer of Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL), Stanley Hondina, thanked KPHL for their sponsorship renewal of the national men’s team.

“On behalf of our Chairman Sandis Tsaka and the PNGRFL board, we’d like to thank KPHL, through their Managing Director, Wapu Sonk, for this sponsorship renewal.”

“To assemble a national team like the Kumuls with most of its players playing overseas is a costly exercise and this sponsorship from KPHL will go a long way in assisting with travel, accommodation, playing & training gear, back-office support and administration,” Hondina said.

KPHL has been a platinum sponsor of the PNG LNG Kumuls since 2022, and has played a major role in the development of rugby league through its sponsorship of the School Rugby League Competition and the recent Elite Youth Rugby League Competition. These programs have helped young boys and men around the country who hope to one day don the Kumul jumper.

Sonk said that KPHL was happy to renew as a platinum sponsor of the Kumuls for another three years, reaffirming its commitment to national pride, youth development and community engagement.

“We believe that through our support, we can empower national identity and promote international visibility through Rugby League,” Sonk said.

The PNG LNG Kumuls will play in the Pacific Bowl Championships this October and November against Cook Islands and Fiji on 25 October and 1 November respectively, with the Prime Minister’s XIII against Australia to be played on 12 October.
