In the wake of a disappointing performance, former Snax Tigers and Hunters half-back, Joshua Lau, has remained undeterred, eyeing redemption for his team.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted, but we didn’t start off well, and towards the end and second half, we suffered two sin bins. Our mistakes have cost us the loss and crushed our spirits,” Lau admitted.
“The only way to rectify our mistakes is through training and bouncing back for the match against the Falcons.”
Lau is training with his fellow Hunters to improve their performance and blend their combinations for a successful home game this Saturday.
Lau stated the importance of playing home games, citing the confidence boost from the presence of supporters and families.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to play on home ground because you have your families and supporters around to support. You will be motivated to win the game and put a smile on their faces,” Lau remarked.
Lau’s rugby journey began in the Lae schoolboy’s competition, followed by selection to the Tigers Academy in 2018. Despite an injury sidelining him in 2022, he returned in 2023, eventually getting called up by Former Hunters Coach Stanley Tepend during round eight in the intercity competition.
Lau expressed this period as a learning stage for him, having missed preseason with the rest of the Hunters.
Lau was happing to attend the preseason under the new Hunters Head Coach Paul Aiton, highlighting the wealth of experience and knowledge Aiton brings to the team.
Lau acknowledged the elevated level of competition and speed in the game, setting ambitious goals for himself and the team to excel.
Lau’s primary goal is to have a successful season with the Hunters, aiming for more victories. He believes that strong team and individual performances will attract attention from outside franchises, potentially advancing players’ careers in rugby league.
Confident in his team, Lau looks forward to facing the Sunshine Coast Falcons this weekend in round three of the QRL Hostplus Cup at the Santos National Football Stadium, in front of the home crowd this Saturday.
