THE Mama Bank has visited the children’s cancer ward and the labor ward of Port Moresby General Hospital (POMGH) last Friday, with gifts to spread the holiday cheer in this festive season.
This is the second visit to the children’s ward from Mama Bank, the first visit was in December 2023.
Mama Bank Human Resource Manager, Bonnie Simeon said: “We’ve presented 10 boxes of capecitabine tablets with discount from pharmacy to the children’s cancer ward and 20 gift bags to the children suffering with cancer.”
The children with cancer experienced moments of joy thanks to Mama Bank’s gifts and visits.
Sinda Ewaruba from Popondetta who has been in the cancer ward for three months with her daughter said that she is happy and thankful to the Mama Bank for visiting and giving gifts to her daughter and other patients in the ward.
Despite of their challenging medical journey, these visits and gifts give the children something to be happy about in this festive season.
Director for Mama Bank, Aleena Bird said: “We assist whenever we can and hopefully when we have funds next year, we can support our community.”
“There’s no medicine available in the country, and one of our team is working with one of the pharmacies, so hopefully we’ll get some medicines and visit again next year,” Bird said.
This charitable initiative started after stories were read by the Mama Bank boards about cancer patient who couldn’t afford the treatment and medications.
Mama Bank hopes to help in whatever little ways they can.
