COMMISSIONER of Police David Manning today confirmed the medical and life insurance arrangements for more than 6,000 police personnel remain unchanged.
Commissioner Manning said existing insurance policy arrangements between the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and Parnell Assurance PNG remain unchanged, providing straightforward upfront access to benefits for police personnel and dependents.
“As a State Service operating in a higher-risk environment, ensuring our members have easy access to a full suite of medical services has been high on our priority list,” the Commissioner said.
“The insurance policy arrangements for RPNGC members, put in place in 2023, remain fully in place. There are no changes to this comprehensive policy.”
The Commissioner’s comments follow recent announcements by the Department of Personnel Management regarding new insurance arrangements for the Public Service.
“As a State Service, the RPNGC continues to look after our members with the insurance arrangements put in place in 2023.
“I reassure our members that recent announcements regarding new insurance arrangements for public servants do not affect the RPNGC or its members.
“We paved the way in 2023 with insurance coverage that provides access to comprehensive medical services, including mental health services for our members and dependents.
“Our men and women in uniform put their safety on the line in the service of our communities, and this is why our comprehensive insurance arrangements remain in place and unchanged.”
In light of recent announcements regarding insurance arrangements for public servants, the Commissioner confirmed the RPNGC and partner agencies are closely monitoring online disinformation.
“We are monitoring efforts by some subversive elements to spread disinformation on social media platforms. Some of these efforts include the use of sophisticated artificial intelligence (Al) technologies.”
The Commissioner called on the public to be judicious in their assessment of social media content and critically question the accuracy of content on social media.
