MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER HON. JAMES MARAPE, PRIME MINISTER OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Dear Fellow PNG Patriots,
I extend warm greetings to each one of you. Today, I will represent our nation before the Australian Parliament, not as James Marape but as the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea.
In this endeavor, I urge all fellow Papua New Guineans to focus on positive actions for the betterment of our country.
Reflecting on the economic journey since the 1960s and 1970s when our founding fathers and mothers ventured into business with a modest K5 billion economies, we have witnessed remarkable growth. My generation took charge in 2019 during a challenging economic climate, but through concerted efforts, we have seen our economy grow from K79 billion in 2019 to surpassing K110 billion in 2023.
While macroeconomic indicators may appear favorable, the onus lies on each one of you reading this message to actively engage in various business sectors, ranging from micro to large enterprises. Instead of dwelling on complaints, let us embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship and contribute to the prosperity of our nation.
Allow me to share the inspiring story of Kum from Ward 13 in Tewai Siasi, who, through leadership and dedication, enabled his people’s cooperative to earn K800,000 in 2020 from coffee production alone. This serves as a testament to what can be achieved through hard work and determination.
I commend James Gore for his focus on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Let us collectively nurture this vision. The government is actively channeling budgetary funds through districts, provinces, and national projects, providing opportunities for your involvement in various business ventures.
In line with our commitment to fostering economic growth, we are currently reviewing SME policies. As the plane takes flight, I look forward to meeting you all this Friday.
Together, let us build a prosperous future for Papua New Guinea.
