Geoscience exploration and extraction conference continues

THE second edition of Papua New Guinea’s Geoscience Exploration and Extraction (GEE) Conference commenced yesterday, continues today and will end on Friday 09th August.

The inaugural event, held in 2022, did not attract as many attendees and delegations as expected.

This year’s conference has seen delegations from across the Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand. Significant discussions mainly focused on change detection studies, geological explorations, mining agendas, and advancements in spectral geographical information science were made.

The event features sequential scientific presentations and reviews from various mining companies, stakeholders, and investors in Papua New Guinea.

The GEE Conference 2024 aims to promote Papua New Guinea’s diverse and rich geo-resources sector while addressing key issues facing the industry.

The conference includes presentations, facilitated panel discussions, and poster sessions. Speakers and participants include representatives from national, regional (Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia), and international communities.

There are also attendees from industry, government, community groups, and academia, including representatives from prominent tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea.

Resource-impact landowner groups and landowner companies have been invited to share their experiences, along with students from leading institutions across the country.
