THE ongoing construction of Gobo All-Girls School of Excellence in Jimi District has received a funding support of K10 million from their Open Member and Minister for Mining Hon. Wake Goi.
The funding support aims at boosting infrastructure development for the school before its first intakes in 2026.
According to Minister Goi, the initiative is aimed at providing a convenient learning space for young women to do grade 11 and grade 12 in the Jimi District of Jiwaka Province.
“We are creating a unique institution that will empower young women in a rural setting,” Goi said.
“I want this school to be unique and to bring out the best in our young females,” he added.
“This is my dream to build a School of Excellence in one of the most remote parts of the country, which is in my district,” Minister Goi explained.
With first enrollment to start next year (2026), the school is expecting a total of five classes with modern facilities, including eight classrooms along with science laboratories, dormitories, and Staff houses.
The Minister confirmed that a generator has been installed already to provide reliable electricity through the entire school.
“We will ensure there is online learning so that there is exposure for the girls in global learning experiences,” Minister Goi said.
“We want to ensure the best learning experience is provided in this school regardless of its rural setting,” he added.
Whilst they focus on completing the school and several other infrastructures soon, a new road construction is also underway which will provide better road access to students and staff to the main highway.
Through Jimi DDA, a land cruiser vehicle has been allocated to the school to carry out its business including other operations.
Minister Goi called on the communities to show their support in providing fresh produce, including and other spin off businesses.
“This school is a legacy project that will not only uplift young women in Jimi but will also set a benchmark for female education in rural Papua New Guinea,” he added.
The Minister conveyed his heartfelt appreciation towards the National Education Department and the Marape- Rosso government including the Jimi DDA and the community for the support given so far to the school infrastructure project.
He made known that they are open to welcome stakeholders to stand behind the project.
The Minister called on the Governor for Jiwaka to also join force with the people of Jimi to have the school ready for first intake in 2026.
