THE Minister for International Trade and Investment and Member for Yangoru-Saussia District in East Sepik Province, Hon. Richard Maru, has called on the Governor of East Sepik Province, Hon Allan Bird to clarify the East Sepik Provincial Government’s position regarding funeral support for the late Hon. Enos Junduo, MPA.
Hon. Junduo, a four-term President of Sause LLG and a Provincial Minister in multiple East Sepik Provincial Executive Councils, served his community with dedication during his five consecutive terms as a Member of the Provincial Assembly.
His recent passing while in office has raised questions about the level of support and respect provided by the Provincial Government.
Minister Maru stated:
“Hon. Enos Junduo was a respected leader who dedicated decades of service to Sause LLG, Yangoru-Saussia District, and East Sepik Province. It is concerning that, unlike past leaders who passed while in office, no support has been extended to honor his contributions through traditional protocols, such as financial assistance or ceremonial respect. These practices have historically been upheld by the Provincial Government.”
Minister Maru further remarked:
“It is important for the East Sepik Provincial Government to outline its current policy regarding funeral support for serving leaders and public servants who pass away while in office. Transparency on this matter will ensure that all leaders, regardless of their district or role, are treated with fairness and respect. The people of Sause LLG, Yangoru-Saussia District, and Hon. Junduo’s family deserves clarity and recognition of his service.”
The Minister emphasized the need for consistent and equitable treatment of all provincial leaders to avoid perceptions of favoritism or unequal support.
He also urged Governor Bird to address these concerns publicly and provide an explanation before the late Hon. Junduo is laid to rest.
“This is a matter of respect and integrity, not just for Hon. Junduo, but for the standards we set as a province in honoring those who serve our people,” Minister Maru said
