FOREIGN Affairs Minister Hon. Justin Tkatchenko, MP has announced the official launching of the 50th anniversary logo and theme, set for January 30th, 2025 at the Parliament House.
Minister Tkatchenko in a statement, said the launching by Prime Minster James Marape and National Parliament kick starts a whole range of events leading up to the 50th Independence Anniversary on September 16, 2025.
“The launching is to build the momentum. We will launch the official 50th Independence Anniversary logo and the theme: Celebrating our History and Inspiring our Future.”
Minister Tkatchenko said manufacturers nationwide will also be celebrating the independence anniversary with their products that have been in the country for over 50 years.
He added that Bank of Papua New Guinea will be releasing its new coins and notes to coincide with the 50th Independence anniversary.
Minister Tkatchenko further said Post-PNG will be producing new stamps as well as displaying some of the old ones dating back to 1975.
He said Air Niugini will brand its aircrafts with the new logo for the 50th anniversary.
“We will produce documentaries of our forefathers and the history of our county to reach out to the primary school children to help them understand their history.”
“It’s important for our children to know the history of our country from the time of German occupation in 1800s to the present,” he said.
Prime Minister Marape has invited world leaders to attend the 50th Independence anniversary, Minister Tkatchenko said. “We will be finalising all the world leaders’ attendances over the next coming weeks including from Buckingham Palace for His Majesty the King Charles Ill.”
“It’s going to be a massive year especially around the months of August and September where we will have a lot of celebrations, concerts and events signifying the importance of where we have been, inspiring our future going forward for another 50 years.”
“We will also have the military tattoo of different military bands from around the world participating in parades and air shows.”
“Some countries will be sending in their jet fighters and other assets for the military week in September.”
“We are also working with our diplomatic partners celebrating their diplomatic relationships and contributions to Papua New Guinea over the last 50 years,” Minister Tkatckenko said.
