THE new Member for Central Bougainville, Jimmy Miringtoro, was officially sworn into office during a small ceremony in Parliament today.

The swearing-in took place shortly after 2pm, as Parliament began its July/August sitting.

Mr Miringtoro took his oath of office before Acting Speaker Kansol Kamdaru (Middle Ramu) marking his return to Parliament following his victory in the recent Central Bougainville By-election.

After being sworn in, he was led to his seat among the Government benches.

Mr Miringtoro’s return to Parliament comes at a time when attention is focused on the

Bougainville peace process and key legislative matters leading up to Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary in September.

The Central Bougainville MP previously served as Minister for Communication and Information.

Our Pati leader and Member for Finschafen Rainbo Paita congratulated Mr Miringtoro and thanked him for joining his party.

Parliament is expected to sit for the next two or three weeks to deliberate on key issues, including Bougainville now full representation.
