MOROBE Province is ready to train and dispatch its new Police Reservists Cadets this year with the establishment of the Police Cadet Training Centre at Gusap.

Morobe Governor Hon Ginson Saonu made the announcement, during the presentation of a new Police vehicle that will be used to support the program.

Governor Sonu said this year the first 120 cadets will undergo an extensive training at Gusap with same training methods used by the Police College at Bomana.

“Without good Police presence in the communities of the province, Law & Order situations will hinder progress of development.”

“Therefore this new intervention program is designed to fill the gap to maintain Law & Order in the 33 Local Level Governments of Morobe Province.”

The presentation was done in the presence of Assistant Commissioner for Police Northern Command Peter Guinness, Former Police Commissioner & Police Reserve Program Coordinator Sam Inguba in the presence of Acting Provincial Administrator Miring Sigoling and Provincial Administration staff and the general public.

ACP Guinness whilst thanking Governor Saonu for the vehicle support, said that the Police Reserve Program at Gusap will have trainers brought in from Bomana Police College to execute training for the cadets.

He said that the training up at Gusap Barracks will run for three months and therefore will be very extensive given the short space of time before the recruits pass out.

ACP Guinness said that the program is intended to deliver over the next five years, 500 Police Reserves to support policing work directly at LLG level in Morobe Province and praised Governor Saonu for the timely intervention to support Police work in the province.
