MP CALLS FOR STRONG LEADERSHIP AND TOUGHER DECISIONS TO CURB CHRONIC LAWLESSNESS IN THE COUNTRY

NORTH Fly MP James Donald says the country requires a strong leadership and
tougher decisions to adequately address law and order crisis it is facing.

“The current continuous episodes of killings across the country is a result of weak
leadership in the highest levels of governments and law enforcement bodies such as
police.

Mr. Donald says there’s a total breakdown of command and control within our law
enforcement bodies such as police, including the lack of leaderships from the most
affected provinces and cities where law and order issues have become increasingly
rampant.

While condemning the perpetrators for the senseless killings, the North Fly MP
calls on the highest authorities including the Prime Minister to provide strong
leadership by making some tough decisions to control the current continuous law
and order crisis in our country.

Mr. Donald says the three provinces of Hela, Enga and Southern Highlands have
become the epicenters of continuous violence and lawlessness resulting in killings
after killings despite the declarations of numerous state of emergences or SoE’s
which has only become ineffective and has not produced the expected results for
peace and good order in the respective communities.

The North Fly MP says these three provinces should be declared failed provinces
and immediately appoint a Special Coordinator with full control functional powers
until the law and order issues are brought under control in those provinces.
